Goals and Objectives for Second Grade
READINGS:
We have an exciting year! Our school provides a strong phonics based program. As the students enter second grade they are ready to take off and read for comprehension! We do one last review of phonics this year with a wonderful, tried and true curriculum called Abeka. We also teach cursive!
MATH:
We have a strong math program also...the students work in speed drills every week. They also focus on borrowing, carrying, fractions, measuring, problem solving and we learn the multiplication families up to the 5's!
BIBLE:
My favorite subject is Bible...In my class the students work on building character while we apply God's Word to their lives as we visit the Old and New Testament. They will memorize the names of all 66 books of the Bible, as well as The Lord's Prayer, part of I Corinthians 13, part of Psalm 139, the 10 Commandments and many more passages as well. We have Chapel every Friday. We also have Community Circle every Friday to discuss as a class the Christlike behavior and areas that need work for that week.
Enrichment: The school provides Music, Art, PE and Library times each week. We also have a wonderful spanish teacher too! We do several special units aside from a big Penguin Unit and the Westward Expansion Unit on pioneers. We also focus on our 50 great states and each child will write and present a report on one state. Another big project is our study of the Rain Forest with a big report on one of the Rain Forest animals.
And then there is science aside from our animal units, we have units on weather, planets, force and friction, plants, magnets and STEM projects.
We keep very busy in second grade, so buckle up!
